WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
In the skin, explains Dr. Bachot, 70% of water is stored in the dermis (the deep layer), thanks to water fixers called Glycosaminoglycans (GAGS), the best-known of which is Hyaluronic Acid. Naturally produced by keratinocytes (on the surface of the epidermis) and fibroblasts (deeper in the dermis), their role is to retain water in the various layers of the skin, and to hydrate collagen and elastin fibers for hydrated, voluminous and elastic skin.

Hyaluronic acid synthesis by the skin decreases by 10% every decade, accelerating from the age of 40.
MOLECULES OF HYALURONIC ACIDARE BROKEN DOWN BY AN ENZYME: HYALURONIDASE.
Basically, the action of Hyaluronidase is beneficial, as it enables the renewal of Hyaluronic Acid chains. According to Dr Bachot, "almost a third of the Hyaluronic Acid in the human body is renewed every day, half of which is in the epidermis. But as we age, its production declines sharply, while Hyaluronidase continues to break down the Hyaluronic Acid still present. The result: Hyaluronic Acid stocks are no longer replenished, the skin gradually dries out, loses its bounce and fine lines and wrinkles appear".
A NEW MOLECULE IS MAKING INCREASING HEADLINES IN THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY: ANTI-HYALURONIDASE.
Scientists have now succeeded in isolating the role of this "Hyaluronic Acid killer" enzyme. They have even succeeded in finding a molecule that inactivates this enzyme and slows down the degradation of Hyaluronic Acid in the skin. a complex oligosaccharide found in blue agave leaves.
"This is an important discovery," explains Dr Bachot, "because this new molecule will slow down the natural ageing of the skin, which is considerable, but it will also prolong the effects of hyaluronic acid injections.
Because Hyaluronic Acid injections have an immediate but... short-lasting action. According to Dr Bachot, the duration of an injection depends on 3 factors:
